OMG I WANT ONE
i think every couple should get one and fill it with the little things they love about each other. and then if they’re fighting throw it at a wall and read all the little things that come out and hopefully that will remind them to love again.
asdfghjkl reblogging for that ^
Designer Drills Holes into Quarters, Turns Them into Rings
Designer Nicholas Heckaman of The Ring Tree meticulously handcrafts detailed rings out of US coins. The Gainesville, Florida-based designer first discovered his skill when he was looking for the perfect ring to propose to his girlfriend with. He managed to create a special engagement ring out of a silver coin with a hammer and “a lot of patience.”
That’s cool as fuck

I. AM. SCREAMING.
why can he walk away in the first gif but has to make sure it completes itself properly in the second one?
As long as the connection tip is less than halfway across, it wants to return to its original position. You can see in the first one he gave it a bit more of a push so he knows it will cross the halfway threshold and fall into place. In dynamics terms, there are three equilibria, two stable ones in the closed and open positions, and one unstable one in the exact middle.
i want this crazy door
Intriguing….but how will this hold up against legions of the undead?
Technically, you could put a door security bar down the length of the door (or two across each section) to keep it from folding, and it would be more secure than your average deadbolted door, depending on the material it was made from.
Depends also on how strong the contact points for the hinges are- it is not TOO uncommon for the weakest point on a door to be the hinges. (You would be surprised how short the screws can be.)
I only see two contact points here and they’re relatively small.. I would probably attack the bottom near the hinge with a sledgehammer. Or more likely a pipe wrench or a boot, since those are things that I own (That’s not how zombies do, of course, but.)
See, the question posed was for legions of the undead, which are usually perceived as “not intelligent” for lack of a better term, so attacking the hinges would be outside of their normal range.
However the security bar could be useful against even humans with tools as long as it was installed with enough foresight to allow it to lock into the floor and ceiling. Stiffler’s idea is to have a track installed so that the bar can be hidden neatly behind the door while it’s open and then rolled into place, where it would lock the door firmly if needed (and I’m assuming the track would have a locking mechanism to hold the bar in place, as well). And whoever was attacking the hinges would need to know where they were located, which depending on their familiarity with your door might be time-wasting guesswork. Another alternative if hinges are a major concern is to have two bars lock from floor-to-ceiling outside the door on the outer perimeters to prevent hinge-tampering, and since we’re speaking in theoreticals where people attack doors, I’d guess that was well within a fortifying budget.
I think too much about security.
Good analysis…biggest issue with the door in it’s current state would definitely be the material. In the video he pushes it like it’s stuffed with down and framed with composite, not exactly inspiring confidence as the undead bash away through the night (obviously just a wild guess). The security bars would help but the door as we see it looks like it would collapse if drunk me leaned on it, leaving nothing but the bars themselves.
I /suppose/ it could be made of say…a carbotitanium composite and then secured with the security bar track system, then it’d be lightweight and strong enough to resist major damage, but that’d be tossing budget out the window and still have too many moving parts
Don’t get me wrong, this is a great door and I would love to enter through it, but it’s just going to be on somebody else’s house. Doesn’t pass the Simple, Strong, Secure marks for any fort/home in my book
Update: They actually make some alternatives with stronger materials and a moving track/bar system! I want mine made of solid tungsten, please and thank you.
A traditional hunter’s trophy called “charivari,” the silver ornaments worn with lederhosen in southern Germany and Austria.
Made with a silver standard no longer used in Germany, so most likely dates to the first half of 20th century or earlier. Made of real marten (wild weasel) jaw in fine silver 835 mount.
This would go great with a grouse foot.
Super awesome opal cubes!!
i wanna eat them

imagine a video game where you create a hero whose destiny is to save everyone, but throughout the game you start making harder and more questionable decisions, and the game gets darker and darker. and in the end you’re just standing there, clutching the controller and finally realizing you were playing the villain all along
